About Pathlight and how we can help….

Why Pathlight?

My mom, Shirley, was one of the most selfless people I ever knew. She was a nurse in a skilled nursing home and helped countless people in their last days. After her passing in 2013, it came time to pay her a much deserved tribute. I was emotionally numb, truly hurting and missing her. Planning her memorial, even though I had a supportive family, seemed daunting. We chose a location that was geographically convenient but we did not really understand our options in that area - even though we lived there most of our lives.

Years later, so many new and wonderful options exist for families to mourn and/ or celebrate the lives of those we have lost. If you find yourself in this delicate time, please know that Pathlight memorial specialists are here to provide a free service to help you to better understand your area memorial options.

Our process….

1. We help you to determine the Tone, Purpose, and Logistics of your memorial service and / or repast…

Before proceeding with the logistics, it is important to reflect on the tone and purpose of the memorial service. Consider the values, beliefs, and preferences of the deceased and your loved ones. Would a service be a religious or non-religious one? Is it meant to be a celebration of life or a more somber gathering? Clarifying the tone and purpose will help to point us in the right direction to your decisions throughout the planning process. See Memorial Options section to give more insight as to the many options available.

2. We provide appropriate venue options…

Once you have determined the tone and purpose of the memorial service, the next step is selecting a suitable venue and this is where Pathlight can be a tremendous resource. Depending on the number of attendees and the desired atmosphere, you can choose from funeral homes, places of worship, outdoor locations, or venues that had meaning or held significance to the departed. Pathlight will provide you with available service options (up to 3 options per inquiry) and can also provide availability of each location. If you are requiring a cemetery or mausoleum option we can refer those as well. Our team can also provide locations to accommodate a repast (meal for attendees) based on your preferences and group details (size, proximity to service, etc.).

3. Full event planning services (Optional - fees apply)…

The planning of the memorial service, organizing and contracting with possible catered venues, and dealing with the logistics after a death may be overwhelming. Pathlight has partnered with professional memorial and event planners to assist you with these details. Once we better understand the full scope of your needs, we will introduce you to planning professional(s) who can assist you with mapping out your memorial. Depending on the extent of your planning needs, the planner will provide you with a range of service fees so that you can determine what would work best for you.

4. Arrange for Speakers or Performers (Optional - fees apply)….

Identify individuals who may wish to speak, read, or perform during the memorial service. Offer the opportunity to family members, close friends, or spiritual leaders who may want to share personal anecdotes, readings, or prayers. Ensure you allocate sufficient time and allow for appropriate coordination to ensure a seamless flow of the program.

Each speaker will provide you directly with their fee structure if applicable.

5. Consider Remote Connection to loved ones outside of the area (Optional - fees apply)….

Using visual elements such as photographs, videos, or slideshows can evoke cherished memories and provide solace to those attending the memorial service. Collaborate with family and friends to gather materials and create a meaningful and respectful presentation. Remember to test the equipment and have a backup plan in case technical issues arise.

Our telecommunication partners will provide you directly with a quote as to the services requested and equipment / connections required.

Supportive Services

A memorial service can be an overwhelming time for everyone involved. Consider engaging grief counselors or support services on the day of the service. These professionals can provide guidance and assistance to individuals who may be struggling emotionally. Providing a safe and supportive environment is crucial in helping family and friends navigate the grieving process. Please visit our Resources section of our website for additional grief support resources.

Reflect and Remember

Lastly, take a moment to reflect on the significance of the memorial service. It is a time not only to mourn the loss of a loved one but also to celebrate their life and cherish the memories that live on. Remember that this service is a testament to the impact they had on those around them and the love that continues to endure.
Planning a memorial service is an act of love and remembrance, offering solace and support to those mourning a significant loss. By considering these steps and involving others in the process, you can create a meaningful and heartfelt experience that honors the life of the departed and provides comfort to all who attend a funeral, cremation & memorial, to a green burial and living funeral ~ we are looking forward to helping in this significant time.
